To Fall Skincare Essentials

We've already established the that I, like any basic bitch, love the fall. The changing leaves, the cooler breeze and the overall feeling of change are like electricity in my veins. We've also already talked about my obsession with quality skincare on the blog — something that I'm very passionate about. When I did my Q&A with Ashley from Kiehl's back in August, I was drawn in even more.

There are multiple issues with skincare as a whole that many people don't seem to fully comprehend. First off, you don't need to spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on top-tier products. If you haven't learned by now, opting for the top-of-the-line doesn't always translate to getting the best product. Am I saying that something at the Dollar Spot in Target is just as good? Probably not. But you know what I mean.

Next, come to terms with the fact that the success of specific product lines is subjective. What works for me and my skin type may not be the best fit for you and yours. Take recommendations from friends, family or beauty bloggers, but try not to get frustrated if their line of choice doesn't work for you.

Now that we've got all the mumbo-jumbo out of the way, let's get down to business!

Baby, this is what you came for

I love each and every one of these products, and although I use most year-round, I do find myself using certain products more in the fall and winter when the air is dry. Nobody can rock a chapped face well, trust me.

FACE

  • Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
This is honestly the best face wash I have ever used. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin but kicks the ass of any blemish that pops up. In the few years that I've been using this, my skin has never been more clear.

  • Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner
The best toner to compliment the special cleansing gel. It feels fresh, smells great and helps clear any residual junk left on my face.

  • Clarisonic Alpha
My sweet, sweet baby. This thing (along with any of the Clarisonic options) works like a dream. Pair it with the cashmere brush head for a spa-like clean.

  • Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream
This should be voted World's Best because it is life-changing. Moisturizers have always been too oily for me, causing me to break out even more. This cream is weightless and absorbs beautifully. No zits here!

  • Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate
My friend and I are obsessed with this stuff. It smells like a citrus orchard and makes your skin glow like the sun. A must-have for the gloomier months.

  • Kiehl's Eye-Brightening Concentrate
The eye brightening concentrate helps me go from sleep-deprived raccoon to back amongst the living. My dark circles may be hereditary, but this stuff sets me apart from the rest of the ghouls in October.

LIPS

  • Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
This is my go-to lip balm. It absorbs nicely, it moisturizes well and the peppermint makes your lips tingle a little bit. Yum. 10/10.

  • Surfer's Salve
A go-to for any dry skin — lips, nose, etc. This stuff works very well in hydrating and soothing any sensitive skin. Even works on bug bites!

  • Burt's Bees Sugar Scrub
About once a week, I use a sugar scrub to exfoliate my lips — ridding them of all the nasty bits and leaving behind fresh, soft skin.

While nine items may not be everyone's idea of "just the essentials" — I have to travel with each and every one of these lifesavers. As we move into the end of the year and the cold wind becomes a bit more unforgiving than the warm moist summer air, these nine products will be bae.

One more goody to throw in takes care of the rest of your skin — The Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap from Kiehl's may quite honestly be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Originally discovered at an "adult-sleepover", I was instantly in love. (With the soap, not the person.) It's a gift from the exfoliation gods and deserves to be in every shower across America.
